When last we left our heroes, they were channeling the spirits of the Moon Princess and her friends. This week, we return to the world of Sailor Moon. Click to embiggen the pictures.

First up, is Red Rich as Tuxedo Kamen. Who else to dress up in all that finery?

Next, how about Sass as Sailor Jupiter (my personal favorite of the Sailor Senshi)? Sass is the character I least had to cheat with the proportions.

Moving right along, we have Zoë as Sailor Venus. I chose a picture from later in the series for Sailor Venus after the senshi costumes were slightly revamped, so Zoë’s look is a little different from the others.

Usually when I pick a theme, there’s a lack of female characters to choose from and the girls have to play male roles. This time, there weren’t enough male roles (amongst the main cast anyway). Two male characters would end up losing the lottery and have to dress up as senshis. The first is Todrick, who doesn’t seem too happy about playing Sailor Mercury. He’s had practice dressing up as a girl before though.

The second was previewed on Facebook, so it should be no surprise to see Barnaby as Chibi-Usa. At first, I wasn’t going to do Chibi-Usa. I only wanted one boy dressed as a girl so Barnaby was going to be Helios, but I decided that was too obscure a character (I had to dig around to find him). Then I contemplated leaving Barnaby out completely. Finally, I decided it wouldn’t be so bad to have Barnaby dressed up as a girl too. He’s also done it before. It also works on a level that the bears play Sailor Moon and Chibi Usa and that it’s the big bear who’s dressed up as “Mini” Moon.

Anyhoo, that’s it for this week. Come back next week for the start of a new theme.

Welcome back to the Wednesday Mash-ups! I’m trying something different this go-around. I really enjoyed drawing the Space Age of Animus rejected idea strip, so this week I thought I’d draw the Funnies characters in that retro-futuristic sci-fi style. As always, click to embiggen.

Spacefur Rich was one of the two characters featured in the actual strip, so all I had to do was reproduce the general look of his appearance in the strip. In the Space Age of Animus setting Spacefur Rich would be a rocketeer, zipping along in space with his rocket pack.

For Sass, again the idea was to reproduce her general appearance in the strip. In this setting, she would be a rogue agent, which is why she doesn’t have the Space Corps lightning bolt logo on her spacesuit.

I decided Todrick would be a Space Corps fighter pilot. Since he’d be in a cockpit instead of out in space, his suit didn’t need to be as enclosed as Spacefur Rich’s, which is why his tail is exposed. My natural inclination was to make the spacesuit red but that wouldn’t have stood out from his fur so I went with blue instead.

Nektara would have been an officer in the Space Corps. Those old pulp sci-fi comics always had colourful costumes so I wanted an unconventional uniform colour to set the look apart from standard sci-fi uniforms. The lightning bolt pin on her lapel designates her rank. Since she only has one bolt, it’s safe to assume she isn’t in the upper echelons of command.

Barnaby would have been a general labourer on the space docks, so his spacesuit would need to be made of more rugged material and less fancy than the ones worn by his friends. The harness is a functional brace to assist in heavy lifting, reminiscent of the harness Barnaby had to wear when he was pulling the wagon on the way to the Crimson Coast.

Next week we’ll see how the other characters turn out (they’re not drawn yet).

It’s that time of week again, when the Animus Funnies merge with pop culture icons to produce MASH-UPS! This week, we conclude our look at Marvel’s X-Men. Let’s get right to it! As always, click to embiggen.

Professor Cyran Xavier is a strong believer in mutant rights, being a mutant himself (if only he could figure out how to unglue the wrench from his paw). It is he who assembled the X-Furs to assist him in his quest for good. I chose Professor X’s hover-chair specifically so I wouldn’t have to draw wheels.

Redcrawler has the power to teleport himself from place to place. Here he is appearing with a BAMF.

Deelocke is a martial artist with psychic powers which she can manifest among other ways as a psychic knife and her butterfly shaped psycho-blast.

Finally, we have Zoenix. Formerly known as the mutant mouse Zoë Gray, the Zoenix came into being when Zoë merged with the Phoenix force given her a huge power boost that she ultimately could not control. I really dig how the fiery phoenix effect turned out.

That’s it for the X-Furs! Come back next week for something new!
