Hey it’s Monday again. I’m blogging a little earlier than usual because…I remembered earlier than I normally do. Let’s get to it.
I finished the video game mash-up theme over the weekend. It’s crazy how fast 11 weeks can just fly by. It doesn’t feel like it’s been that long at all. Curse that Buick! I have to come up with a new theme so I can start drawing next weekend. Any suggestions?
I got to hang out with my best buddy on Saturday. It’d been a dog’s age since we’d been able to do that between work and family and what have you and I have to tell you it was really great. We didn’t do anything fancy, we drove down to Trois-Rivieres, grabbed a bite to eat, watched The Resurrection of Jake the Snake, caught up on a bunch of stuff and played Codenames. That’s all you really need actually.
So yeah Codenames. It’s been on everybody’s top ten games of 2015 so I finally decided to buy it so I could give it a try.The idea is that you’re trying to think of one word clues that will link as many of your team’s list of code names as possible. The code names are all common words and laid out in a 5X5 grid. You give your clue and say how many words you think your clue links to. Your partner then tries to figure out which words you meant. If he guesses right, you cover up the word in your colour. If he guesses wrong and it’s a word that belongs to the other side, you cover it up in the other colour. If he guesses wrong and it’s the secret assassin word, you lose immediately. The goal is to cover up all of your words before the opposing side’s words get covered up. Simple right? The trick is finding good clues that can link multiple words on your list without linking to words on the other list. If you can get a clue that links four words that’s really amazing (or you had a really fortunate layout). I’ve played with both Fab and my mom separately and we had a good time. I’d like to be able to give team play a try.
I got Machi Koro in the same order as Codenames, but I didn’t get it to the table. My mom’s going out to Nova Scotia for the next three weeks so I don’t anticipate doing as much gaming for the rest of the month. More news on that as it develops.
I guess that about covers things for this week. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday. Carja V.
