So blogging.

In the battle between sleeping and not sleeping, not sleeping is still winning out. I took a lot of cat naps over the weekend, but they weren’t at all refreshing. Eventually my body will crash and catch up on the sleep it’s been craving. That will be a glorious day.

A number of years ago, I received Small World as a birthday present but never got around to playing it. During the gaming season at La Crique O Jeu, I finally got the opportunity to try it out and I found it to be quite the slog. From set-up to take down the game took over three hours to play even though I was the only one at the table who hadn’t played before. I didn’t much care for it but it didn’t keep me from putting the game on my Steam wishlist. The summer sale going on now had it heavily discounted to less than ten dollars (including the three mini-expansions that were ported over to the app) so I decided to give it a try. Having done so, I can say that I appreciate the game a lot more now. Playing against the computer I can complete a game in less then thirty minutes. Consequently, I can get a lot more games in which allows me to try different things out. It’s a great learning tool in that respect. With the ability to play so quickly, I don’t know that I’ll be enticed to play the tabletop version very often, but at least I’ll have a better grasp of the strategies and tactics when I do.

My PVR hard drive got corrupted over the weekend. I lost half a season’s worth of Grimm episodes amongst other things. That would have been bad enough but even after wiping the hard drive, it wouldn’t stay on for even five minutes so I couldn’t even watch TV. Fortunately, that part seems to have fixed itself and while I can’t record anything, at least I can watch shows live until I’m ready to bring it in for repairs.

Geek and Sundry put on a 24 hour live stream charity drive on Twitch over the weekend to raise funds for MDA. The finale was a session of Deadlands played out by the group behind Critical Role and it was glorious. The three hour segment raised about a third of the total funds for the drive. I don’t know how the Critters (the name given to fans of Critical Role) manage to give so much but I commend them for doing so.

That’s about it for this week. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday. Carja V.
