Hi there! Time for me to ramble on for a few paragraphs. I do so love to ramble.

Last Monday, my niece turned sixteen. On Saturday my sister organized a little get-together for her and her friends and invited me and my mom to join them all for supper. It was also when we would be giving my niece her birthday gift (We all pitched in to buy her the laptop she’s been pestering us for for the last…I want to say four…years now). Now, there’s a part of me that always wants to bring board games with me wherever I go just to be prepared. But considering that we practically had to twist my niece’s arm to join us for a game of Takenoko at Christmas, I felt pretty sure that there’d be no interest in a board game, particularly with her friends there. When I got in the car, my mom asked me why I didn’t bring any games and I told her there was no way any of them would want to play. Wouldn’t you know it, one of the first things my niece asked me when I got there was, “Did you bring any games? It’d be fun to play Dice Town.” Doh! Well lesson learned. From now on, assuming space is not an issue, I’ll always bring SOME board game with me when I go out. Which game will depend on where I’m going and who’ll be there. I wouldn’t bring Lords of Waterdeep to a campfire for example.

On Friday for game day, we played Lords of Waterdeep, Dark Gothic and Takenoko. Those are pretty much our go-to games right now. Takenoko is a nice game to finish with because it plays so simply but is still fun. Even after a long day, when I’m feeling tired, I could play Takenoko without effort. I brought Tail Feathers as a test to see how far my mom has come gaming-wise. She’s surprised me more than once since we started. We’re not quite to that level. I don’t know that we ever will be and that’s fine. There are still plenty of games we can play. Tail Feathers will be a game for me and a friend to try.

On Thursday, I finally got to see The Force Awakens in English which was awesome! I caught some dialogue that I missed the first two times. I’m fluently bilingual but every so often I’ll have trouble following what’s being said in a movie in French because they use expressions I’m not familiar with.

Other than that, work has been eventful. We’re gearing up for some big changes so it’s going to be crazy for the next couple of months. Thank goodness for weekends to unwind (and game!)

Okay, I can’t think of anything else to say so that’s it for this week. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday. Carja V.
