Hey folks!

I’m a little later than usual posting the blog this week. First off, I went out shopping for a new bike after work today. Last fall I had my bike stolen off my back porch (not fun). I decided to wait until the spring to replace it. The weather is more inviting now and hey, my bus pass for the month of April is up, so carpe diem! I found myself a nice bike that was within the price range I was comfortable with. For the price I paid my last bike (a Miele, which honestly wasn’t a great bike looking back) I’m getting what I feel is a much better bike (a Rocky Mountain). It’ll be ready tomorrow (awww, but I wanted it now!) so I’ll be taking the bus again tomorrow. I should have gone shopping over the weekend, then it would have been ready for today, but the weather was icky on Saturday and the bike shop wasn’t open on Sunday.

Okay so the bike shopping got me home about a half hour later than usual. Conveniently enough my buddy Fab was passing by the bike shop just as I was walking in and he followed me in and offered me a lift home when I was done. Otherwise, I would have had to wait for the next bus home. Thanks Fab!

This weekend was a combination of Double XP Weekend (officially called Welcome Back Weekend) and the tail-end of the 5th Anniversary Festival. I logged back in to try to win myself another horse for Todric, my Loremaster who’s been amassing a little stable of horses for himself) and then seeing that the double XP bonus was still in effect, I logged in with Cerenwyn to take advantage. Level 38 is a long one!

As I was playing I remembered that I hadn’t written my blog yet, so I logged out and here I am.

Last week I was on a mash-up roll. This week’s theme is Star Trek and it features the full cast of eight (Popkin and Mouser don’t count). I started with Big Oonch and finished four more in one night. The others were done the next night. No last minute drawing this week!

Not every theme lends itself to featuring the whole cast. It depends on whether I feel there are enough interesting costumes to go around. For Tron, I only went with the main characters and chose not to do anything from Tron Legacy. I found that apart from the circuitry designs on the bodysuits, the characters pretty much looked the same. With Star Trek, there are several series and movies to pick from, so I was able to find something for everybody. The first four will go up this Wednesday and the remaining four will follow next week.

Frank suggested I try my hand at Bond villains. I’m not a big James Bond buff, and I’m not sure that there’s much to be done there, but I’ll look into it for a possible future installment. If anybody else has ideas for future mash-ups, be sure to share them with me, either in the comments section or by email!

That’s it for next week. Tune in next week when I’ll write more stuff about stuff. It promises to be text of some sort!

“We’re back!”

Zoë opened her eyes. Had she passed out again? Her injuries had gotten worse without treatment. She had a fever. She was having trouble concentrating. She tried her best to put on a strong face for the sake of the children.

“Great! What did you find?”

Biki held out the container that Zoë had given the pair before sending them out to forage for food. It was full of berries and nuts. Meagre fare, but it was more than she could have hoped for.

Her big plan had been to keep the kids busy by sending them out in pairs to look for food. They would tie one end of the rope from her pack to a tree at the edge of the clearing. One of the pair would tie the other end to their paw. When they reached the end of the rope, the one would rummage around for food. The other would wander a little further out, keeping the first in sight at all times. That way they would always be able to find their way back to the clearing.

Zoë forced an encouraging smile, “Good work! Who’s going out next?”

“You don’t look so good,” Biki told her. Biki was the youngest of all the kittens. The others had probably noticed the rough state Zoë was in as well, but they were too nervous to broach the subject. The presence of an adult was comforting and none of them wanted to think what would happen to them if Zoë’s condition worsened.

She decided to be honest about it, “You noticed huh? Well, I won’t lie to you, I’m really hurting here.”

“Can we help?” Trip asked after poking his head out from the bushes where he’d been rummaging.

“You’re already doing lots,” Zoë replied. “We need to eat.”

“I’m hungry!” Greggy chimed in.

Zoë’s smile was genuine this time. “Me too. I guess now is as good a time to eat as any, right? Let’s divide this bounty up, shall we?”

The kittens crowded around her and she doled out their portions. To their credit, nobody complained. Not even the ever-hungry Greggy.

The berries were tart but good. They wouldn’t last though. Sooner or later they would rummage all there was to find in the area. She could only hope that Popkin returned before then.

Welcome to another Wednesday Mash-up! This week we delve into the world of programs and users, the world of Tron!

Serving as our titular character, Cyran is Tron. Here he is about to receive the energy wrench that contains the code to stop the Master Control Tinker (MCT).

Every good program needs a good girl program to stand by his side. Yeah, apparently girl programmers make girl programs and boy programmers make boy programs. Anyway, here is Nektara as Yori.

Flynn is a user. He’s from the world outside the computer. When he takes a closer look at the MCT, the devious program digitizes him into the system. Flynn is played here by Blue Rich.

And finally, the MCT charges Sark with keeping its peace on the grid. Again playing the heavy is Todrick.

That’s it for our look at the world of Tron! Come back for something new next time!
