I’m having a lot of problems updating the site lately, so I’m going to keep this short.
It’s more Krull this week.

I’ve been waiting for Friday all week! It’s just been that kind of week, ya know? Now that it’s here, let’s celebrate with a flashback ‘kay?
I’m going back to Cobra’s ranks for this week’s mash-up. Revisiting the G.I.Joe line with Flint got me super jazzed so I immediately followed him up with another piece. You’re only seeing it now because I went back to show the flashbacks I’d jumped over to show Flint. Anyway, let’s get to him. As always, click on a picture to embiggen it.
It turns out it’s Cyran’s week! First he gets a new mash-up as Torquil from Krull and now he’s in the flashback as Destro. The drawing originally looked like he was heavily leaning to the left. I just rotated the picture until he was standing upright.
The new tradition for the Joe characters is to show their blister card. Here’s Destro’s. I slimmed it down from the first two so that the dimensions more closely resemble the real Joe cards. It’s fairly simple to move the elements around on the card to mimic the way things moved around on the real cards. The tricky part is designing the new elements like the yellow flash announcing Destyran the Enemy!
And finally, here’s the comparison piece. This time around, I had Cyran’s ears sticking out through holes in the mask instead of being encased by the mask as it just made more sense. By looking closer at the artwork, I was able to figure out Destro had grenades on his left wrist bracer.

Wednesday morning came and a mash-up rose upon the site. It was a Wednesday occurrence!
It’s more Krull this week! It’s proving to be a challenging series of mash-ups, because I’m not finding super clear pictures of the costumes to base myself on. The screen caps I took from the movie aren’t as sharp as I’d like, so there’s a certain amount of fudging going on. I’m still liking the results though. Last week, I said Cyran was coming up next. Did any of you guess he’d be Torquil? I decided I wanted to give Cyran a chance to really look tough, as that’s not a look I usually go for with him. Most people who see him, assume he’s a girl (no eyelashes folks, that’s my defining characteristic for the girls). Anyway, Torquil has a great costume. I just obscured a big part of it by having Cyran hold his axe out in a battle ready position.

Once upon a Friday, there was a website that did flashbacks of stuff it had posted years earlier. In the end, it turns out that that website is THIS website and that THIS is one of those flashbacks. Did you feel the wayback machine kicking in?
Okay, so last week I said that this week’s flashback would again feature Barnaby and asked you to guess which of Barnaby’s roles it would feature. Were you able to guess Superbear? If so, kudos to you!
Superman’s is a very simple costume. I could have decided to go with his New 52 threads, but to be honest, I like the red undies over blue tights. The red breaks things up nicely and he seems to be missing something without it. The biggest challenge was finding a flying pose I liked. Since the costume molds to his body, there was nothing to break up my lines and it was smooth sailing.
Here’s the comparison. Superman’s curl is so iconic, that I featured it the first time. This time around, I gave him a whole head of hair to go along with it.

It’s Wednesday! It’s Wednesday! It’s Age of Animus Friends-day! The day of the week where we reward our faithful friends not with cash or jewels but with new mash-ups! That said, here’s this week’s reward!
I told you last week that I wasn’t finished with Krull and as you can see I wasn’t kidding! It’s my second-favorite movie from 1983 (the other being a little flick called Return of the Jedi) I have a whole series of Krull mash-ups planned. As always click on the picture to embiggen it.
This week, we have Nektara playing the female lead of the movie, Princess Lyssa. Lysette Anthony is so very, very pretty in this movie. It’s a shame they felt they had to dub her voice over with some other actress. I have to say, drawing beautiful wedding dresses is hard work. I didn’t even try to feature the embroidery. The pictures I captured from the movie weren’t sharp enough to really get a feel for them and to be honest, I don’t think I’d have done it justice. I hope I did enough to at least suggest this is a wedding dress. It’s white, right? 🙂
Next week, the mash-up will feature Torquil, one of the bandits who joins Colwyn on his quest to find the Black Fortress and rescue his future queen. But who will be playing him? The answer may surprise you!
