Hey! It’s that time again. Time for me to make the donuts. No wait, that’s another guy (I wonder if he’s still alive actually). It’s time to write the blog.

So I checked and the Time to Make the Donuts Guy passed away in 2005. RIP. Oh the days when you couldn’t skip ads so you got to know them REALLY well.

I dozed off for a bit when I got home. It’s already past eight. I suppose that’s a sign I should go to bed earlier. I just can’t bring myself to do it. There’s some crazy mental block that says that if I don’t stay up until at least 11pm, then I’m not making the most of my evenings. I could try waking up later, but my internal alarm clock won’t let me do that most mornings either. What can you do? Be sleepy I suppose.

I played Attack of the Jelly Monster on Friday. It’s a real-time dice rolling game. Players roll their dice as quickly as they can and place them one at a time in the various city districts to collect as much jelly as possible. It’s chaotic and not normally my type of game, but I picked it up anyway because the theme just seemed kinda cool.  I don’t want to play it all the time, but I don’t regret my purchase either.

My mind isn’t the steel trap that it normally is tonight, so I guess I’ll call it a blog. Have a good seven y’all and we’ll do this all again next Monday. Carja V.

And so it was said that in the time of Monday, a blog post would be written. And that blog post would go on to be the blog post that reshaped the universe! That is not this blog post.

A tip of the hat to the late Charlotte Rae who passed away yesterday at the age of 92. Diff’rent Strokes and the Facts of Life were two TV staples of my childhood. Rest in peace.

The humidity has been brutal these past few days. Every time it rains (and it’s rained quite a bit) I hope that it’ll be the time that breaks the humidity. Not yet.

We had our Star Wars Destiny Store Championship on Saturday and I got destroyed. I played three tournament games and four “casual” games and lost all but one. Most of them were not even close. Quite a difference from the last tournament I went to. I thought I had a stronger deck too. This is just further proof that Boba Fett is an intergalactic fraud. I played better with Jar Jar than I did with him. On the plus side, as the organizer for the event, I scored a nice playmat and Ahsoka card.

Speaking of Ahsoka, a couple of weeks ago, I saw one of those internet memes that was talking about good, strong female characters in Star Wars, citing Ahsoka as perfection over Rey and Admiral Holdo (Laura Dern’s character in The Last Jedi) and while I won’t argue that Ahsoka is a (much) better character, she also got several seasons of character development over two animated series as opposed to a movie and a half for Rey and maybe about fifteen minutes for Holdo. Ahsoka was also a very divisive character when she was first introduced and I daresay most people disliked her. I’m not saying Rey will be able to develop into as strong (or beloved) a character, but she has time and room to grow. We’ll see how that pans out.

So that’s that for this week. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday. Carja V.

Hey-lo folks! Time for a blog entry.

This is the last of my three day weeks for the summer. July went by so fast. I’ll be moving up to four-day weeks for August. I can only hope they go by as smoothly.

Last week I got my Collector’s Edition of Big Trouble in the Little China: The Game by Everything Epic Games and it was truly epic. We had a lot of fun trying it out on Wednesday. I got some rules wrong which made the game a lot easier than it should have been, and we just managed to squeak out a win. We played again on Saturday and while I got some rules right, there were still some I’d missed and while it was definitely harder, it was still easier than it should have been and we again barely pulled off the win. I look forward to playing it a third time, hopefully with all the correct rules to see if we can win that way. There’s the campaign mode that I’m also eager to try. It was a year-long wait to get it, but it was oh so worth it. It got me to rewatch the movie over the weekend and it was awesome to see how deeply they dug into the movie for references in the game. Good stuff!

A while back I believe I mentioned that I was having some trouble with some of my drawing software. Well, to update, everything seems to be better now.   From reading online I saw that a common cause for the type of problem I was having is an incorrectly installed Microsoft Visual C++ update. I went back through the last couple and it seems to have done the trick. I can save without problem in Paint and I’m able to do my text balloons without incident in Manga Studio. While I was still trying to figure out what was going on, I switched up the way I did my strips. Instead of doing the strip in English and then saving a copy to change the text to French, I did two sets of text balloons in the one file. I can set one to invisible and save and then switch to the other layer and save again. I honestly don’t know why I haven’t been doing this from the start. It saves so much space to have just the one Manga Studio file. Something good came from all the problems I was having.

That’s all for this week folks. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday. Carja V.

Salutations codes! (Greetings programs!) Time for some blogginess.

What a nice weekend we had. A beautiful sunny day on Saturday spent with good friends at the Alfani compound. Some fun gaming on Sunday at Le Dés Truqués where I got to break out Rebellion for only the third time ever (third win too!).

I finished Deep Space Nine over the weekend. It was very solid. It may very well be my favorite Trek series. There was some stuff that fell flat, but the overall narrative just worked. The story that runs throughout is engaging and I was interested in seeing what happened next. Good stuff.

I also blitzed through Next Space. It’s very much in today’s vein of comedy that normally doesn’t work for me, but it did here. The animation was solid and colourful. It builds and builds and you think, okay this is a one-shot series. There’s no way this can continue. And yet, it will. And I want to know how, so they got me.

The final Armello mash-up goes up this week. I’m working on a simple set of character pieces to follow up. It’ll give me something to replace the link pictures in the Artwork section. I drew a Sass piece today that I think is fun. I’m not sure I want to shade it, as it feels more in keeping with my style without it.

That’s about it for this week. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday! Carja V.

Welcome to the poor man’s Monday Blog: The Tuesday Lament, when all bloggers lament that they forgot to blog the day before. It’s a specialized type of post to be sure.

I only got four hours’ sleep on Sunday night, so my brain wasn’t in the right state of mind to be blogging yesterday. I hope to fall back into my normalized sleep schedule soon.

I would have posted sooner today, but I got some new Star Wars Destiny cards and I was motivated to try to find some new deck ideas. I have a crazy build in mind. We’ll see how it pans out.

So Fab tells me yesterday, he tells me that it’s Prime Day on Amazon which means all kinds of deals on assorted items. I don’t shop on Amazon very much anymore, but I decided to give it a look see just to be sure there wasn’t anything particularly nifty. I didn’t find anything in the sales items that really spoke out to me, but I got to looking through some other stuff and the idea struck me that maybe I could upgrade my drawing tablet. The prices are so much lower now than when I bought mine. I might be able to get a decent upgrade for a reasonable price. This will require some more investigating.

That’s it for this week. Lamentable, right? Well, that’s what you get in a Tuesday Lament. Have a good six and we’ll do this all again on Monday. Carja V.
