Wednesday, when the work week becomes half empty if you’re an optimist and half full if you’re a pessimist (think about it). While you’re chewing on that, let’s get a mash-up, okay? Okay!

It’s the last week of Power Rangery fun! I can’t see I know anything more about the Power Rangers today than I did when I started. The mash-ups turned out nice though and that’s all I can hope for in a theme.

For the last Power Ranger mash-up, we have Todrick as the Green Ranger. Todrick wears green all the time, so this seemed like a natural. The Green Ranger offers some different costume accessories to draw which was nice after drawing the very same costume four times in different colours. The pose I chose for this picture required drawing Todrick looking straight ahead, which is something I don’t do very often. Most of the time, there’s just a little turn to the head as seen by the sides of his ears. None of that here.

So that’s it for the Power Rangers. There’s a brand new theme on the horizon for next week. What is it? I could tell ya, but where’s the fun in that. Come back Wednesday to find out! Until then, post your guesses in the comments below!

Did you know that 100% of Fridays lead into Saturdays? That’s a fact you can take to the bank though I don’t know why you would. There’s no money in that fact. It’s just true. Anyway, this isn’t Factual Friday, it’s Flashback Friday so let’s get on to the business at hand, shall we?

It’s Yo Joe time again. As a;ways. the pictures are 100% clickable. That means you can click on them. What happens when you click on them? You get to see them only bigger. It’s neat and highly recommended.

Nektara is Cover Girl. I’ve been basing all the Joe flashbacks on the original Joe card art. To the best of my knowledge Cover Girl was never available carded in the original 80’s Joe toy line. She was only available with the Wolverine tank. The box art had her seated in the tank so there was no full-body shot to work with. I had to cheat and use the card art from the 2013 rerelease, which aped the style of the originals without being quite as good (though I must point out, better than I could have done). Cover Girl was drawn in a really simple pose and yet I had so much trouble putting Nektara into the same pose, mostly because of the legs.

UPDATE: I was looking through yojoe.com for the date of the carded Cover Girl’s release and I stumbled on a picture of a Brazilian carded figure based on Cover Girl from 1984 called Agente Sparta. It’s funny because I feel the card art of the knock-off looks closer to the style of the original Joe card art. It would have been easier to draw to boot.

Here’s the action figure card mockup. I chose to stick with the old card layout instead of trying to replicate the actual 2013 card.

Here’s the comparison to the original mash-up. The original was based on a panel from the Marvel G.I.Joe comic. Throughout her character’s history, Cover Girl has switched between being a blonde and being a redhead. When she appeared in the original G.I.Joe A Real American Hero animated miniseries, she was blonde. Her action figure was a redhead and her later appearances in the cartoon reflected the action figure’s look. In the live action movie, they cast her as a blonde and her 2013 update was left blonde.

That’s all for this week. Next week, be prepared for a walk on the Dark Side! Have a good week folks!

It’s the day between Tuesday and Thursday also known as Mash-up Day. The day when worshippers of the god Woden party like there’s no Thor coming.

The Power Ranger theme is winding down. Just this week’s and next week’s installments left to go.

I had a little size disparity going on with Barnaby and Cyran playing the Black and Blue Rangers. I wanted to keep the sizes the same for the girls so I chose Deema and Nektara over Sass and/or Zoë. Here’s Nektara in pink, a colour she wears regularly (just as Deema wears yellow regularly). The Pink Ranger is the only one given a little skirt-thing, I guess to sell that she’s a girl.

That’s all for this week. Can you guess who’s going to be the final Ranger? If you know the Power Rangers at all, you should know what colour he (or she) will be. Find out for sure next Wednesday!

It’s a little later than usual for a flashback, but I slept in late today. It’s just that lazy kind of Friday y’know? I’ve been awake for a while now and ready to flash it back!

It’s Star Trek time again.

Here’s Cyran in his Admiral’s uniform from Star Trek: The Motion Picture. I don’t know that Cyran would ever rise to the rank of admiral, but it was the colour scheme I liked best out of the ST:TMP uniforms.

Here’s the comparison to the original mash-up. Back then, I gave Cyran the pad just so that his pose would be a little different from everyone else’s. I couldn’t get it to work the way I wanted it to in the new piece, so I dropped it.

That’s all for this week. Nektara’s back next week. Field your guesses on who she’s going to be in the comments below. Have a great weekend folks!

Wednesday morning and I’m taking the bus so I’m going to keep this brief. It’s mash-up time!

More Power Rangers this week! As always click on the picture to enlarge it.

Deema is here as the Yellow Ranger. The poses have been the most interesting part of these mash-ups. The costumes are pretty simple and pretty much the same from character to character.

That’s all for this week! Next week, Nektara makes a go of being a Power Ranger!
