Hey there folks! It’s Wednesday and you know what that means! Time for new mash-ups!

This week we conclude our visit on Eternia with the final batch of Masters of the Universe villains. As always, click to embiggen.

For the heroes, I cast Todrick as He-Man. It follows then, that for the villains, he’s Faker. I don’t know how anybody was supposed to confuse the blue guy for He-Man. Maybe Eternians have a special kind of colour blindness where blue and tan look the same colour? Anyway, I think Todrick actually looks pretty good in blue.

Next is Barnaby as Beast Bear. Hear his mighty roar! Beast Man was the first Masters of the Universe action figure I ever saw. I really liked his red and blue colour scheme.  They remade his armor in a different colour in a weapons pack (yellow I think) but it didn’t look as cool.

I mostly bought MotU figures based on their action features. Even though Tri-Klops’ special feature is just a ring around his head with eyes painted on, Tri-Klops is one of my favorite villains. There’s just something about his design. Tri-Klops’ eyes are red, blue and green. Who else for the part then, than Red Rich?

Finally, we have the Big Oonch as Zodoonch. There’s some debate as to whether Zodac (or Zodak) is actually a villain. His original action figure card said he was evil though, so that’s what I’m going with. I love his helmet.

So that’s it Masters of the Universe and Animus fans! Come back next week for a new mash-ups theme!

Welcome to another edition of the Wednesday Mash-up!

I already let the cat out of the bag (Sass did not approve of me keeping cats in bags) on Monday that this week’s theme was Master of the Universe. This set of mash-ups took longer than just about any other set I’ve done so far. As I get a little bolder and fancy with my colouring choices, I’m spending more time on each individual drawing. Some took between three and four hours, although that took some silly mistakes I made which doubled some of the work I had to do.

So let’s get on with it, shall we? Masters of the Universe tell the story of Prince Todrick, who transforms into the powerful He-Fox when he holds his power sword aloft and says, “By the Power of Furskull! I have the power!”

There are only three other heroes who know He-Fox’s secret. Chief amongst them is the guardian of Castle Furskull, the Zo-rceress!Drawing and colouring all those feathers was a pain.

Then there’s Deema, the Lizard-at-Arms. She’s a skilled weaponsmith and mechanic.

Finally there’s Cyro the wizard. Most of spells end up backfiring, but maybe that’s because he needs a new wand attachment for his wrench. I think Cyran makes a great Orko. Looking at him now I feel that his wand arm is off and looks backwards.

Some of you may have seen a preview of Many Masks on Facebook earlier this week. Many Masks may not know He-Fox’s secret, but he’s a valuable ally nonetheless. With the change of a mask, he can transform from a raccoon to a robot to a terrifying monster. Man-E Faces was the first Masters of the Universe action figure I ever got and I was really eager to include him in this week’s theme. But if you’ve seen Man-E Faces, you know that his helmet melds into the rest of his body. That look just didn’t work for Red Rich since he (and all the other Funnies characters for that matter) have such big heads. I almost gave up trying to draw him after my first attempt. I put him aside and worked on the other characters. When only Red Rich was left, I tried to think of another hero to use, but I felt that Man-E Faces three faces synched up so well with Red Rich’s masks that it would be a shame not to use him. So I tried again, forgoing the action pose I had originally envisioned in favour of the at-ease pose show below. After colouring him, I felt he was perhaps the best of the bunch. As for the faces, I used no less than nine layers to do them. Three separate ink layers, three colouring layers and three shading layers. I could then hide and unhide the layers I needed for each face.

That’s all for this week. Come back next Wednesday for more of the heroes of Masters of the Universe and the following two Wednesdays for the villains. Have a good week y’all!
