Hello there Browncoats! It’s Flashback Friday or have I already said that? Let’s get to it. Remember you can click on a picture to get a better view.

Kaylee is Serenity’s mechanic and she’s adorable. She has a sunny disposition and is down-to-earth. There ain’t a power in the ‘verse what can make Kaylee be less cheerful.

Here’s Nektara’s second turn as Kaylee. Nothing special to say about drawing her other than I’m happy with the results.

Here’s the comparison to the original. I didn’t have a lot of complaints about the original. The lines were a bit shaky but I was really happy with it. The posing is a little better on the new one (paws on the hips) and the dimensions are more streamlined. The colouring is better as well.

That’s it. Come back for more flashbacks next Friday.

Flash! Baa-aack! If you get it, you get it. Anyway, let’s get to this week’s flashback. 🙂

Simon Tam is one of the most brilliant minds in the Alliance. Top two percent and what not. A top surgeon. But his sister was even smarter. When she sent him coded messages of how they were hurting her at her new school, he did everything he could to break her out. Eventually he succeeded and he sought to escape with her onboard Serenity. Having lived in comfort his whole life, he’s most at odds with living as an outlaw on the edge of space. Still, he somehow manages to hold his own and that’s not nothing.

Here’s Big Oonch as Simon. I had a bit of trouble colouring the vest. The shine lines came out really garbled so I went back a week after I had “finished and started over giving the vest shading its own layer so it wouldn’t ruin the rest of the picture. Other tidbit. I drew this set early but for some reason, I left colouring it until nearly the end of the set.

Here’s the comparison to the original. This was my least favorite piece of the original set. The brush tool I used to ink it was too thin and the shakiness of my lines stands out so much. While the clothes aren’t super flashy to draw, the new one is a ton better.

That’s all for now. Until next time, this is me saying “Until next time!”

Hello Top Men and Women. It’s Friday already. Time for a trip in the wayback machine again. Remember that a picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.

River was recruited to be a part of a gifted children program. There they performed untold experiments on her that left her a little broken. She was broken out of the center by her brother, Simon. She appears to have limited powers of precognition and is incredibly gifted in combat.

Deema’s character is an opposite to River’s. Deema is always smiling whereas River…isn’t. This is therefore her greatest acting challenge.

Here’s a comparison to the original. I can’t say the original turned out poorly. The lines aren’t as smooth as today’s, but it turned out fairly well.

That’s it for this week. More ‘fly next week.

Everybody having a good Friday so far? Well it’s about to get sooper better with a flashback!

Zoë is Serenity’s no-nonsense first mate. She’s married to its pilot, Wash (no, his name isn’t Wash Washburne…it’s a nickname). She’s tough as nails and smart to boot. Her and Mal went through the war together and she seems to have come out of it a little less broken than he did.

Here’s Zoë as Zoë again. I love how that turned out. Hair is always tricky with Zoë. It’s the ears obviously. I like the posing here.

Here’s a comparison to the original mash-up. The original was done near the end of the series and I was winding down and combined with the fact that Zoë was far from one of my favorite characters, I feel like I didn’t give it my all. That’s why I decided to tackle her near the beginning of the set this time, I think to much better results (comparative to how each respective set came out, because the whole point is that the new piece be better than the original).

That’s all for this week. More ‘fly next week!

Wow! Is it Friday already? This week just breezed by…not really, but the two days off at the end of it (including this one) sure do help. Anyway, let’s get to the flashbacking. As usual you can click on a picture to see a closeup of it.

I don’t know why, but I always liked Ron Glass (RIP). I didn’t even watch Barney Miller regularly back in the day, but I just thought he looked and sounded cool. So when I saw Glass was in Firefly, I thought it was extra cool. Shepherd Book is the moral compass with a mysterious past. There’s a comic book series that delves a little into that past, but I didn’t much care for it.

Here’s Cyran returning as Shepherd Book. Can you imagine, I actually forgot to draw the wrench in his paw? I had to go back and add it in a week later. Pretty embarrassing.

Here’s the comparison to the original. The original wasn’t too bad, though I felt at the time that it was one of my least-inspired pieces of the original set. Book’s costume was pretty bland compared to some of the other characters.

That’s all for this week. More Firefly next Friday! You know, Firefly was the night that the show used to air on Fox back in the day…when nobody was watching it (I did though!)
