Hey there, hi there, ho there. First blog post of 2019! Well the first one WRITTEN in 2019. Last week, I’d written the post and clicked Publish, but WordPress has this setting where it gives you a chance to reread yourself before it publishes. You have to confirm and sometimes (too often) I click the wrong button and whatever I’m posting doesn’t go up and I don’t notice because I’ve already gone on to do something else. This was the case last Monday so my last post of 2018 actually went up in 2019. I believe I’ve disabled the function so my posts should go up on the first click now. Usually I’d only notice the mistakes I made in my post AFTER confirming anyway. I still have plenty of time to correct them before anyone actually comes in to read.

So today was my first day back to work. I was SUPPOSED to start again on Thursday but I asked if I could take the rest of the week off and my boss said yes, so I did. Man, ALMOST two full weeks (I went in on the 24th so it was one day short). That’s the longest paid vacation I’ve taken since I started working and I have to say it was pretty swell.

Last week I started and pretty much finished the Sailor Moon flashbacks. All that’s left is the shading. That’s eleven pieces in seven days. I was on a roll! I wasn’t sure when I started. After the first two pieces I felt I might have made a mistake revisiting the theme, but things just started clicking on the third piece and I was off to the races. I’m pleased with how the set looks. Hopefully I don’t ruin everything with the shading.

I also shaded the last X-Men flashback (which you’ll see this Friday). For some reason, I shaded them out of order and I realized that Shadowcat was supposed to go up this week, so I had to get that done. I finished half of it and then there was an unexpected error and I lost everything and had to start over. I was not a happy camper.

I was quite sad to see that we lost Mean Gene last week. He was the best and by all accounts nobody in the wrestling business ever had anything bad to say about him (a real rarity). I went through a bunch of interview clips on YouTube and I got to see so much good stuff that I never even knew about. RIP Mean Gene.

That’s all for this week. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday. Carja V.

It’s the last blog post of 2018! Yeeeeaah! *waves arms in the air like Kermit the Frog* Two lines in and I’ve squeezed in a Peanuts reference and a Muppets reference. Cool.

I hope everybody who celebrates Christmas had a nice one last week. I did. Unfortunately my mom was a little under the weather so she couldn’t enjoy herself as much as she would have liked, but all in all it was a good day. I got home at nine and was so wiped, I went to bed before ten, which is so unlike me. I needed the sleep apparently.

It was so nice to have the week off but it’s going by so fast. I only have two free days left and then it’s back to work on Thursday. It’ll make for a short work week though.

I caught me a cold on Wednesday that I’m still carrying with me. The runny nose is the worst part. It’s just irritating. It’s slowly clearing up though so I should be good by the time I get back to work (oh joy!)

I went to see Aquaman on Friday. It was good. Really good actually. The only knock I have against it is that it’s a little bit too long. That said, if they’d rushed, it would have made the search for the trident feel too easy. So I get it. Maybe I’d have shaved down the action scenes a bit. I always feel like they could shave down the action scenes. Between Aquaman and Wonder Woman being good and Shazam looking like it’s going to be a fun time, I feel like the DC movie universe could be getting on track…finally!

That’s all for this week. Have a good seven and especially a good new year’s eve tonight and we’ll do this all again in the new year! Carja V.

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house
There was a creature stirring and it wasn’t a mouse
It was the guy writing his blog…this guy right here
He was busy writing messages of good Christmas cheer

Okay that’s enough of that. No way I’m going to keep that rhyming up.

Christmas is a celebration of family and friends.

That’s a message that sometimes gets lost in all the crazy running around that goes on at this time of year. Buying presents, wrapping presents (ick), hosting parties, attending parties. We get consumed by all the consumerism.

Don’t get me wrong, I like all that stuff (minus the wrapping) but it’s not what Christmas is all about. The next time you catch yourself complaining about all the Holiday Stress, take a breath and think about the things that are important. It helps keep things in perspective.

That’s all for this week. I still have some last minute wrapping to do. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again on New Year’s Eve! Carja V.

Hello there! Thanks for dropping by for some ramblings.

It’s been a week can’t say that I’m liking this new version of WordPress. It’s slick, but not in a good way for me. I guess I’ll have to get used to it.

Christmas is but a week away. That’s crazy just writing that. Where has the year gone? All but one item will be in on time for Christmas. Actually, that one item is scheduled to come in after the new year. Oh well. At least it’s not the only gift I had for that person. Now for that pesky problem of wrapping all this stuff. I think the wrapping is what’s actually killing my interest in Christmas this year. Weird I know.

The X-Men set is done save for some colouring/shading. I need to start thinking of another theme. Looking back, the sets that still need revisiting are Ronin Warriors, Sailor Moon, Alice in Wonderland and Final Fantasy IX. The latter two I’d be nervous redoing since I like the originals so much and I think it was a mistake to do Ronin Warriors the first time so revisiting them doesn’t feel like a great idea. That leaves Sailor Moon for flashback treatment or try to do something brand new. Any suggestions?

I didn’t get as much sleep as I should have over the weekend so I’m running extra tired today so I think that’ll be all for this week. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all next Monday for a special Christmas Eve blog! Carja V

It’s that time again.

Hoo boy have we gotten a lot of snow lately! I spent at least four hours shoveling on Monday and Tuesday and I still had a little to do on Wednesday. And that was doing just the bare minimum to be able to be able to go from the back yard to the street. There’s a lot more snow left. I’m just glad I don’t have a car or I think I’d still be shoveling! 🙂

A quiet evening among friends. That’s what Saturday night was. The games were left to the side and we just talked for hours. This isn’t something I’m up for very often, but once in a while, it can be a nice thing. I did have the shakes from going through rolling-dice-withdrawal afterwards but it passed.

David couldn’t make it for Too Many Bones on Sunday, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise since I hadn’t gotten as much drawn as I would have liked during the week. I got caught up and fiddled around with my new phone (one needs to make sure one’s tunes are set up).

Speaking of the new phone and the music contained therein, today I was able to listen to music at my desk at work for the first time in years. The old phone had something stuck in the earphone jack that I never managed to get out so I couldn’t plug my earphones in. It felt weird to have the earphones in, but it was nice to be able to tune the rest of the world out for a spell. I’m reluctant to say this allowed me to concentrate because I found myself paying too much attention to the lyrics here and there, but I’ll get used to it.

That’s about it for me. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday. Carja V.
