Monday already? Time sure does fly.

Whoo boy! I’m feeling super sleepy tonight. I’ve dozed off a couple of times already. Logic dictates that I should go to bed early. Logic rarely wins this argument though.

I’m back to working Mondays. Considering that my original plan was to take all the Mondays in July off I should have been off today, but when I scheduled my vacation days, I was looking at the Fridays to determine which weeks were in which month. This week was in August and so I didn’t ask for today off. Silly me. Next Monday is the Civic Holiday in most of Canada so most of my agency compatriots across the country will be off next week. In Quebec, we get the Saint Jean Baptiste holiday a week before Confederation Day so I’ll still be at work.

So for the longest time I used to draw on weekends. Then I got this idea that if I got my drawing done during the week I’d have more free time during the weekends, that being the time I’d be most likely to socialize. With Les Dés Truqués and Le Joker du Jeu now I find myself wanting my evenings free. I got this weird idea that I could draw Sunday night (the night the bus schedule ends early) and Monday (the day that Les Dés Truqués is closed). With me working on Mondays again, I decided Saturday morning and Sunday evening were for the best. And so I’m back where I started, drawing on the weekends. Funny how life brings us back to where we started sometimes.

I’ve been reading up a lot on Star Wars Destiny. I haven’t been this involved in a game’s meta environment since HeroClix. I like Dice Masters a lot too, but Destiny feels like the meatier game of the two. Plus, Star Wars. Les Dés Truqués is holding an introductory tournament on September 9th. Anything that grows the game locally is a good thing. Maybe I’ll meet a player who has a Luke Skywalker to trade. 🙂

That’s all for this week. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday. Carja V.

Good Monday to you all Top Men and Top Women.

This is the last of my four-day weekends. They sure were good while they lasted. I still have a number of three-day weekends ahead of me so I don’t have to go back to the harsh reality of five-day work weeks again just yet.

I got one of my Kickstarter games in: By Order of the Queen. I got it to the table the very same day, which is probably the fastest I’ve ever gotten a Kickstarter game to the table. It’s a beautiful game and comes with one of the most unique promotional items I’ve ever seen, a colouring book that features all kinds of lore from the game world. It’s a cooperative family game, but don’t let the family bit fool you. It’s pretty challenging. Things didn’t go horribly awry and we still managed to lose. Actually, we completed the final objective but didn’t survive the round so it was really a squeaker. I hope to play it again soon.

I was talking about the site to a friend yesterday and it got me thinking that maybe I could start writing a little bit again. Nothing big, maybe just some new write-ups about Pelaria. It’s been a long time since I’ve done that. Don’t be totally surprised if something new goes up in the coming weeks. But then again, don’t hold your breath either.

With that little tidbit to look forward to (or not), that’s all for this week. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday. Carja V.

Hello Top Men and Top Women.

Last night I did something I hadn’t done in…gosh many a year. I played Magic The Gathering against living, breathing opponents face to face. Le Joker du Jeu had a prerelease sealed tournament for the latest Magic expansion and not having any other plans for the evening, I decided to participate. However I may enjoy the game (and that comes and goes) I can’t say it’s a game I’ve ever been especially good at. The magic (see what I did there?) of sealed tournaments is that everybody starts off on a level playing field. You open your packs and build from what you got. Sure, you can get lucky and get the super mega awesome god card, but if you don’t have anything to support it, it’s not going to do you any good. So I built the best deck I figured I could…and soundly got thrashed in two out of the three rounds. The other round I actually won, but mostly because my opponent just couldn’t get the land he needed to get going in two of the three games we played. I finished dead last, but still had a good time.

Speaking of things I dove back into, I started playing Armello again. I even played some online matches against other folk which I mostly enjoyed. The biggest drawback is that it’s much slower to play as real players need time to consider their moves. The biggest attraction is earning keys and chests to unlock new dice to use. They’re purely an aesthetic change, but a cool one. I’m slowing trying to unlock a complete set of the dice that are currently available.

The current storyline in the Funnies concludes tomorrow. There are a couple of standalone strips after that and then we jump into another story for about a month.

Well that’s all for this week. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday. Carja V.

Hello again Top Men and Top Women. It’s time for some blogging, so let’s blog it up, Animus Style!

This past Saturday was Canada Day and tomorrow is Independence Day so a special salute to all my Canadian and American friends out there. Can-Am Connection yo!

I had a nice four-day weekend, mostly on my own. Les Dés Truqués were closed on Saturday and Sunday and they’re always closed on Monday so that limited the gaming potential. I bought Star Wars Rebellion on Steam for $2.50 and revisited that. Suddenly it was late and I hadn’t eaten. It was and still can be an addictive game.

On the board game side of things, Dice Forge came out which was a game I’d been waiting on for a while and it didn’t disappoint. It’s a light, gateway type game where players roll dice to collect resources to upgrade their dice and buy cards that grant special powers and gain victory points. I tried it at Les Dés and was sold so I bought a copy. The one “flaw” is that it only plays to four players which limits the opportunities I’ll be able to bring it to the table. But it’s so PURTY!

Tomorrow it’s Dice Masters at Le Joker du Jeu. I’ve been buying quite a few packs lately…at a $1.50 each it’s pretty easy to justify buying a couple here and there.

I’m having fun with my latest story arc. It’s a simple story (aren’t they all?) that hearkens back to the earlier days of the strip in a good way I think.

That’s all for this week. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday. Carja V.

Hello there Top Men and Top Women! It’s Monday and I didn’t have to go in to work today! Good day.

As I head into my three day work weeks I had a flash. What if I do my drawing on Sunday night and Monday morning? The strips get done and then I can take care of other stuff during the week and weekend. Good plan and it worked after I got over the writer’s block. I wanted one standalone strip and one to start a little Sass story before I start my next arc. I just couldn’t think of any good gags. It took over two hours (and a nap) to come up with something.

I got to give Dice Masters a try today. It’s a collectible dice game based on the Quarriors engine, which I loved. I have a whole mess of dice but just never got to play until now. It’s pretty good.

I found out over the weekend that they’re rebooting Duck Tales and it’s looking pretty sweet. I really liked the original cartoon though I wish they had featured Donald in it. The reboot fixes that quibble. They seem to be going for a blend of the original cartoon and the comics that they were based on. Some of the voices will take getting used to, but I look forward to the premiere this summer.

Nothing else comes to mind this week so this’ll be another short blog. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday. Carja V.
