Hello Flashback Fans. It’s time.

Here’s Cyran about to do some repairs outside his spacecraft. The most difficult thing to get right was him reaching out for that handle. It took a lot of tries with different angles for the handle to get it looking halfway acceptable. Cyran hasn’t been drawn with his orange backpack since his time in Horvath’s camp, but this spacesuit inverts his original colour scheme using my two favorite colours (orange and purple). I wish I could nail drawing circles starting from any start position. It would have been easier to hide the merging of the brush stroke if it had been where the helmet connects to this body. (A lot) more practice required.

Here’s a comparison to the original. This is a huge upgrade all around as Cyran was probably the weakest piece of that original set. The proportions work better and the folding of his ears inside the helmet looks much more natural. The simple change of changing his goggles and belt from brown to black looks better as well.

That’s all for this week. More space age adventures next week.

It’s the best kind of deja vu. It’s flashback time!

Here’s Nektara in her space age commander’s uniform. I don’t know why, but I seem to like this combination of blue and pink. They’re the colours I chose to paint my Eldar army in Warhammer 40K for that brief period where I thought I wanted to paint an army.

Here’s the comparison to the original. She sure did slim up from those days huh? As I’ve refined the character’s looks, her head got bigger and her body got smaller.

That’s all for this week. A new flashback next Friday!

It’s Friday afternoon and I’m home so yay for that. It’s time for a flashback so yay for that as well.

The space age set was an homage to pulp science fiction stories and movies. They don’t have a huge regard for actual science and thus would probably be better qualified as science fantasy. There’s just something fun about the retro look. The Rayguns & Rocketships kickstarter won me over almost on the look of it alone.

We start our trip down asteroid memory lane with Barnaby. If I had to pick a role for him, it would be a space fleet cadet, ready to serve. My favorite element is the glass faceplate effect.

Here’s the comparison to the original. Barnaby has clearly lost some weight in five years. The original piece had Barnaby saluting. I tried to go for that again in the new piece, but it looks more like he’s shielding his eyes from the light as he looks at something in the distance.

That’s all for this week. See you next Friday for another reveal.

It’s Friday morning and it’s time for a flashback. Have a great day everybody!

I don’t know anything about Ibuki. I needed another female character so I looked through the roster to find one that had an interesting costume that wasn’t over the top. Ibuki was the best I could find at the time. That’s really it.

Sass is back as Ibuki. I based the pose on the bishoujo figurine because it looked really cool. I had to fudge a little with the pants because the toy was too cheesecake for what I was going for. I looked around for some other ideas and found some pictures of Ibuki wearing the one piece underneath and that worked fine.

Here’s the comparison to the original. The arms of the original are really wonky, especially when it comes to elbows.

That’s it for this week. Next week we get to see the first of the new pieces with Skitter and Chae. See you next week!

Hello and happy Friday to all my Top Men and Top Women out there. Here’s to a great weekend but first let’s check out a flashback!

Vega is also known as Claw, but originally he was named Balrog. As part of the rotation of names when the game was ported from Japan to the US, Balrog’s name was given to M. Bison so that it wouldn’t be as blatantly obviously that they were trying to ape Mike Tyson; M. Bison’s name was given to Vega because Vega didn’t sound threatening enough; and Vega’s name was given to Balrog because it sounded more Spanish. Cute huh? Vega is the only fighter with a weapon in Street Fighter II and is quite the pain to fight…as are all the bosses really, but I had a lot of trouble beating Vega.

Here’s Cyran returning as Vega. Whereas Vega’s claws are a slashing weapon, Cyran’s wrenches are more to bludgeon folk. How does he keep that mask on?

Here’s a comparison to the original. The view is a little different and the paw rotation is less awkward in the new piece at the cost of not seeing all of the wrench weapon.

That’s all for this week. We have one more flashback to go before we get to the new Street Fighter material. See you next week!
