Hello Top Men and Top Women!

Last week was not a great week. I fell sick and there was some unpleasant drama at Les Dés Truqués that I could have done without. The shakedown hasn’t fully resolved from that drama yet but it should this week. I’m just hoping for the best result possible.

I’ve started work on a new story arc for the Funnies that will start up in March. Deema’s back in the spotlight after being nearly invisible for so long. It’s getting so that I need to learn how to draw her efficiently again. That’s how out of practice I am.

There isn’t much else to report so this’ll be a short blog post. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday! Carja V.

Greetings programs!

I had a good time at Shawicon on Saturday. I got to meet Raymond Rougeau (a class act), Yvon Barrette, Jerry Houser and Allan Nichols from the movie Slapshot (very entertaining) and I bought myself an awesome hat. Not just ANY hat mind you, a leather bycocket, or if you prefer, a Robin Hood hat. I’m not usually one for hats, but I had to make an exception in this case. It truly is amazing.

To temper that bit of good fortune, I think I’m coming down with something. I spent my Saturday in the company of Fab and Lyne who are battling bronchitis and sinusitis respectively. I don’t know how contagious those are, but I don’t know that it’s a coincidence that I developed a pesky cough on Sunday. For the most part, other than that I’m fine, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I take a downward turn in the next couple of days.

I received The Grimm Forest on Friday and it is one of the most lavishly produced games I’ve ever seen. The Kickstarter was extremely successful and they delivered big time. The game play is fun too so you know, bonus.

In my haste to complete my strips on Saturday and getting ready for Shawicon I forgot to post a mash-up on Saturday. There will be no catch-up post this week. Hopefully I won’t forget again next week. 🙂

That’s all for this week. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday. Carja V.

Hello Top Men and Top Women! Time to blog!

Today’s song tag comes to you from the greatest tag team in the world (or at least La Mauricie), GeneSis! One half of the team was in action on Saturday taking on Razor Revolution for the Inter-regional championship. Razor pulled out the win and there was a little dissension in the ranks. They’ve been ordered to square off against one another by GM Nino Mancuso or risk being fired from the FCL forever! What will happen next? Find out next month!

In the shorter term, Shawicon is going down this weekend. I’ll be there on Saturday to see the sights. It should be a good time.

So Sunday we had a plan. It was a good plan. Six of us would get together at Les Dés Truqués an hour before opening to start a campaign of Charterstone. The gist of the plan was known well in advance, weeks even. We’d be playing at 10am. The date remained to be confirmed and that was done on Thursday. Imagine my surprise when I woke up Sunday morning to find messages in our group chat from two of the six saying they couldn’t make it. Time stamp showed both came in a little before 2am. One said that he wasn’t sure he could commit to coming regularly on Sunday mornings so he felt better bowing out before we started. Funny. Seems to me he had plenty of time to come to this realization before Saturday night. The other responded darn and admitted that 10am was a little intense for her. I’m sorry. What? It’s called an alarm clock! Use one! And maybe if you both went to bed at a decent hour, 10am wouldn’t be that difficult! I mean, I went to bed after 1am and I was able to keep my word.

Things come up. I get that. But this was just selfishness. Neither of them was doing anything important that kept them up late on Saturday. They were playing at Les Dés Truqués in fact. There was ample time to bow out. Waiting until late at night the night before was just classless. With a little more time, we might have found two other players to take their place. I had to turn down someone who was interested in playing because the group was full up. He wouldn’t have been able to make it on that particular Sunday but that’s a different issue.

Needless to say neither will be invited to join any further campaigns I’m running.

Okay. That’s been vented. I can go on with my week. Have a good seven y’all and we’ll do this all again next Monday!

Hello Top Men and Top Women! It’s Blog Time!

This week’s blog is gonna be short. I mean, really short. I had some internet connection problems and so I wasn’t able to log in until just now and the 25th anniversary of Monday Night Raw is about to start soon. It should be a pretty big show (not Paul Wight) what with the Royal Rumble right around the corner and I don’t want to miss anything.

So how cool is it that my wrestling flashbacks resumed just in time for the Raw anniversary? Sometimes the timing, she is good.

Plans have been set in motion to start a new Imperial Assault campaign soon. I’m going to be looking into rescheduling the RPG one-shot soon. Not to mention the new Destiny set came out recently. That’s gonna be a lot of Star Wars coming up! Woo!

That’s all for this week (I said it’d be short!). Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday. Carja V.

Hello Blog Readers. Did you miss me? I fully meant to write a blog on Tuesday but then, I didn’t. So there was nothing for you to read here last week. Well, assuming that you’re fully caught up on all the content that’s already available. No puppies were injured due to me missing a post (that can be reasonably proven at any rate), so let us all move on to what’s on my mind this week.

Well darn.

Seems like there’s nothing on my mind. Last Monday I was thinking about writing on why the Rey revelation from The Last Jedi was great, but this week I’ve decided I don’t want to be that guy.

Say, did I write about my Gloomhaven experience? No, because that happened last Sunday and I didn’t write a blog last week.

So yeah. Gloomhaven. It’s the number one game on boardgamegeek.com. Considering how many games are listed on the site and how few of them have ever been number one (like maybe ten?) in the site’s history, it’s a pretty significant accomplishment.

I didn’t like it.

Note that not liking something is not the same as hating something. I didn’t hate the experience. It’s a well thought out game with plenty of choices which I’m sure its fans find interesting. It just failed to connect with me. Part of me worries that I’m missing out. That there’s a game that I’d really like in there if I just stuck with it. It’s rated so highly for a reason, right? But then there’s other part of me that says why stick with a game that I don’t particularly enjoy in the HOPES that I learn to like it, when I could just play another game that might click with me right away? I suppose if I’d been one of the folk who spent the big bucks on the game (to its credit the full box weighs like 10 pounds and it’s jammed pack with content) I’d be more inclined to want to try harder to like it. Fortunately, I did not spend the big bucks on the game so I can leave it in my rear view mirror, never to be seen again except maybe at the next gaming table over where another group is enjoying themselves with it. More power to them in that case.

That’s what I’ve written this week and I will write no more until the next time I write. Have a good seven and we’ll do this next Monday. Carja V.
