“You’d think they could clean the streets now and then!” he muttered to himself as he slipped his gloves on. After an hour of primping, he was ready…again.

“The villains will absolutely be GREEN with envy,” he said over his shoulder to his reflection as he admired the back of his new ensemble in the mirror. This time it was chiffon green with pink highlights. “Green Rich may be the champion of springtime, but these are desperate times!”

Once again he poked his head out the door to check for traffic before stepping out. “Alright, let’s do this!” he declared as he strode out the door. He was no less pompous than before, acknowledging his fellow citizens with a confident nod.

When he reached the corner, he checked for traffic before exclaiming. “Fear not, citizens! The verdant vine of vigilance, Green Rich is here to put the squeeze on injustice!”

A carriage passed by then, but he jumped out of the way just in time to avoid being splashed with mud. “Ha ha! You did not get me that time, you wheeled mud flinger you!”

There was a tug on his cape. He turned around quickly, pulling his cape free, “Unhand my countenance varlet!” But it was a young fox. “Oh! Uh…sorry. It’s been a bad day for my attire.” He rubbed the corner of his cape to clean it.

The fox blinked, then spoke, “Excuse me Mr. Green Rich, sir. Can you help me find my da’?”

The coon’s brow furrowed, “That sounds like a task for the local constabulary, young lad.”

“But my da’ IS the constable!” the fox insisted.

“A kidnapped constable? That IS serious! Fear not lad, Green Rich will find your father!” And immediately, he bounded off.

The young fox blinked again as he watched the dim-witted dandy head off. A moment later, the coon returned, “Ummm…mayhap you should tell me what your father looks like.” The fox rolled his eyes with a sigh. This was going to be a trying day.

From the journal of Ardebast Raconteur:

I have not had the pleasure of meeting Red Rich yet. What follows is based on things I’ve heard from other furs who have met him.

Red Rich is a raccoon from Sixtus. He is a self-professed hero of the masses. Word on the street is that his true identity is Richmond Raccoon although Red Rich steadfastly denies these claims. “While Richmond Raccoon is most certainly handsome, he is not Red Rich. I am Red Rich!” Adding to the confusion is the fact that two other such heroes, Blue Rich and Green Rich, also run the streets of Sixtus “helping” others. Again, the word on the street is that Red, Blue and Green Rich are all the same fur, but all three deny these claims as well. “Do these threads look red to you?”

Although he is obviously delusional, he is certainly well-meaning. As such, the citizens of Sixtus tend to look the other way when Red Rich is on the scene. He causes more good than harm so they are willing to forgive his idiosyncrasies.

Known nicknames:

the Crimson Crusader (as Red Rich)
The Azure Aspect of Justice (as Blue Rich)
The Verdant Vine of Vigilance (as Green Rich)

Carja’s Notes:

Red Rich’s story was the most fun to write of the original Animus stories. He was the first character to be named in his own story. Coincidentally, he is the first Animus character I designed for the funnies and the first Animus character I drew using my Bamboo pad. For the record, I think he looks best as Blue Rich in the funnies, but I like the Red Rich name better.
