Hello everybody and welcome to the Wednesday Mash-up. This week, we’re continuing with the holiday theme. So, ho ho ho, let’s go! As always, click to embiggen the pictures.

Barnaby the Red-Nosed Reinbear has finally been invited to play reinbear games. In this case, the game is kickball.

Sasseneeza Scrooge transformed overnight from a cranky miser to a cat full of the Christmas spirit, eager to share her Shinies with everybody, but particularly Mini Mouser.

Last are the carollers three, Red Rich, Nektara and Todrick. Drawn on separate layers again, I’m able to given them to you individually and as a group.

Happy holidays everybody. Next week, the Wednesday Mash-up will be off. It’ll be back in the new year with a look at our friends in their traditional attire.

Welcome back to the Wednesday Mash-ups. As I mentioned in my blog entry on Monday, this week’s theme is Christmas. Let’s get right to it, shall we?

First up, what would Christmas be without jolly ol’ Saint Deema. Yes Virginia, Deema Claus is coming to town. There’s a cheerful Grinch vibe going on in this one.

Next, we have Cyran as one of the toy-making elves. I would have coloured him in red and green, but I had already done Oonch in those colours, so I chose to put Cyran in green and white instead.

Moving on, here’s Oonchie the Snowfur. I was going to use a top hat like Frosty, but I didn’t like the look, so I went with a snow cap instead.

Last for this week is my favorite piece of the set. Zoë and Popkin as Christmas angels. I drew and coloured them on two completely separate layers so I’ve included them as separate elements as well. I commented on Facebook this weekend how Zoë may be the smallest character in size, but her pictures always end up huge. The drawing software I use can’t always handle the size of the file and it crashes on me, usually as I’m shading. That’s why I always save my pictures before tackling the shading layers now.

We’ve got more holiday goodness in next week’s installment. See you then!

“Hello everyone and welcome to Wednesday Night Raw! I’m your host, Carja McMahon along with good ol’ Popkin Ross!”

“Pickles!”

It’s sad thinking that’s the last time I use that gag. Well, not really. Anyway, here are the last of the wrestling mash-ups. As always, click to embiggen.

“From Sixtus, ‘The Model’ Rich Purpel!” This is my favorite of all the heel mash-ups. It just turned out so well (at least I think so). By the way, “Purpel” is not a mistake. It’s so you pronounce it like Martel. 😉

“From Burroughs County, the Big Boss Oonch!”

“From Vawsing, the One Bear Gang!” “DERRRRRRRRRP!” “From deepest, darkest Vawsing, the Pelarian Dream, Barneem!” I couldn’t decide whether to go with Akeem or the One Man Gang for Barnaby, so I did both.

“Finally, Mama Shango!” I started working on Zoë as Papa Shango and it wasn’t working. Normally, I draw Zoë in a three-quarters view and I couldn’t get the facepaint to look right. I trashed the attempt and actually started looking at other wrestlers, but I couldn’t find anyone I wanted to go with. So I tried again, this time, drawing Zoë more head-on and it worked so much better. I’m glad I stuck with it.

So that’s it for wrestling month. Next week, will be a return to basics.

“Hello everyone and welcome to Wednesday Night Raw! I’m your host, Carja McMahon along with Popkin “The King” Lawler!”

“Pickles!”

If you repeat a lame joke often enough it becomes funny. My whole comedic career is based on this premise. Anyhoo, it’s time for new mash-ups. More wrestling this week (don’t worry, there’s only one week left after this one). Let’s send it back to our ring announcer shall we? As always, click to embiggen.

“WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” “From Calix’s Cross, ‘The Nature Girl’ Nek Flair!” Originally I was only going to do two weeks of wrestling mash-ups and Ric Flair was going to be in that set. Then I decided that I was going to do good guys and bad guys. Ric Flair was going to be in the first set, but Flair only became a good guy in the later part of his career. In my golden period of wrestling, he was “the dirtiest player in the game” so I moved him over to the bad guy set which is how Warrior made the cut in the first set. I didn’t know which robe to use. This wasn’t my first choice, and I even started drawing a different one, but I didn’t like how I was drawing the patterns on it, so I switched to this one which was easier to draw.

“From Bree, the Honkytinker Fur!” Don’t you just love his ear sideburns? Again, this track suit wasn’t the one I originally had in mind. To me, the classic Honkytonk Man track suit is his blue one with the floral patterns, but I really didn’t like how it turned out. I moved on to the next mash-up, but I couldn’t get over how bad the blue suit turned out so I did something I rarely do and went back to a finished drawing. I erased the colour layer and started over with this notes and records suit. It looks a whole lot better trust me.

“Shinies Shinies Shinies Shinies Shiniiiiiiiiies!” “From her summer home in Northend, the Million Shiny Fur, Sass Dibisassy!” The Million Dollar Belt wasn’t fun to draw. The rest was fairly easy.

“It’s time for the Sister Love Show!” I really struggled finding a heel for Deema. I feel the love theme works for her, but in her case, she would have been sincere.

“From Verdant, Mr. Perfect, Tod Hennig!” Mr. Perfect never had elaborate wrestling gear, but he was too cool to pass up. His trademarks were the towel he always carried with him to the ring and how he could spit out his gum and swat it in mid-air with his hand, so that’s what I tried to depict here.

That’s all for this week. Come back next week for the final wrestling installment.

“Hello everyone and welcome to AWWF Superstars! I’m your host, Carja McMahon along with Popkin “The Body” Ventura.”

“Pickles!”

Okay, so it’s the same joke I opened with last week, but I still like it, so sue me. This week, we continue with the wrestling mash-ups by concluding our look at the faces (good guys). In reality, every single one of these wrestlers (and those from last week) has been a bad guy at some point in their career…wait maybe not Warrior, but they transcended being bad guys by being so good at being bad that people started cheering for them, requiring the company to turn them into good guys. Let’s get back to our ring announcer, shall we? As ever, click to embiggen.

“Oooooh yeah!” “Approaching the ring, accompanied by the Lovely *mumblemumble*, the Intercontinental champion, Oonchy “Macho Fur” Savage!” The 80s Intercontinental title belt is my favorite title belt ever. There’s something about the design I really like which is why I’m glad WWE went back to it this year. I had to include it with someone and Macho Man was the titleholder when I started watching, so he gets the belt here (even though he was a bad guy at the time). There was nobody else to play him than Big Oonch (it helps that he always wore those sunglasses to cover his eyes) because really, who’s the most macho of all the Animus cast members?

“‘The Heartbreak Kid’  Nek Michaels!” I drew Nektara before I drew Zoë and I ran into the same problem with them as I did with the other girls…male wrestlers often go around bare-chested. Here I cheated (like I did with Zoë) and gave Nektara a t-shirt under her vest.

“From Parts Unknown, the Sassiest Warrior!” Sass was not originally going to play the Warrior. But I booted who she was going to play to the bad guy roster, so I needed another idea. Ultimately (see what I did there) I chose Warrior. He was one of my favorites for a time (until he started believing his own hype and went a little loopy). He did wear singlets once or twice, so I felt justified in putting Sass in one, even if hers doesn’t feature any airbrushed artwork.

“The best there is (in his mind), the best there was (in his mind) and the best there ever will be (in his mind), Pink “Hitfur” Rich!” I was going to stay away from the leather jacket, but in the one picture I found of Bret in the pose I wanted he was wearing it so I went for it. I like the buckle.

That’s all for now. Next week, we introduce the heels (bad guys). Seeya then!
