So Friday came and went and then Saturday came and went. Now it’s Sunday and finally here’s a flashback to the days when it was Friday.

It’s everybody’s favorite lizard! No, not the Geico Gecko! It’s Deema! Deema is fun to draw. Assuming she passes the training, she’s going to get a new look in the Funnies in the near future. Here’s her classic look with her suspender dress.

Here’s the comparison to the original piece. The original wasn’t too bad. Her antennae were still sticks, which is weird, looking back, considering that the rest of her limbs were fleshed out.

That’s all for now.

It’s Friday folks! So here’s another flashback!

I think Barnaby is the easiest for me to draw. He has a round head, but his ears make it so I don’t have to make the line meet. The junction is going to be erased anyway. So here I’m doing a throwback to his original design in giving him a rope belt. I’ve also given his overalls some legs.

Here’s a comparison to the original mash-up style. The original isn’t terrible. The limbs are a little wiry, and the colour is off, but it’s alright.

That’s all for this week! More art next Friday!

Well if Friiiiiiday! Time to flash it back! Oh yeah!

The last of the August birthdays was last Saturday: Zoë’s. She used to be difficult to draw. I feel I have a much better handle on her now. And Popkin has always been fun to draw and to write, because he only ever says one line, “I am Gro–” errr, I mean “Pickles!” The biggest difference with this and her comic strip style is the feet. I don’t know why I gave her the long toes in the comics, but it just doesn’t look good in mash-ups so she gets regular feet.

Here’s a comparison to the original piece in mash-up style. Again I forewent the action pose and just went with something natural. It works so well.

That’s all for now. Who’s next (it’s not Goldberg)? Find out next Friday!

It’s Friday, the best day for a flashback! Why? Well, because Friday starts with an “F” just like Flashback. Mystery solved!

Here we are with the original ladies’ fur, Big Oonch. It was his birthday on Wednesday dontcha know? This was surprisingly hard to draw. I wanted to do a bit more of an elaborate pose with him tipping his hat, but it just didn’t work right, so I settled for something simple. He was going to have both paws out, but that didn’t look right either. So this is a piece of compromise.

Here’s a comparison to the original piece done in the mash-up style. As you can see, cloaks are something I’ve struggled with for a long time. Oonch looks so much better now.

That’s all for this week. More flashbacky goodness next Friday! Another birthday girl perhaps?

Hey! We’re back to doing some flashbacks, but this time we’re not revisiting a theme, we’re revisiting our cast of characters.

Here’s Todrick. The main difference with how he appears in the strip is the sleeves. They’re just not something I want to be drawing in every strip.

Here’s a comparison to the original Todrick in the “mash-up” style. I started doing mash-ups in March 2012. By July I had started to do some shading. I feel I only STARTED to know more what I was doing by mid-to-late 2013, so Todrick’s not looking too great in November 2012. Those ears, those go everywhere limbs…I’ve come a long way since those days (and I’ve still got room to improve).

That’s all for this week. A new piece goes up next Friday!
