The Guild – Codex

It’s the Wednesday before Comic-Con! (Yeah, Comic-Con is a big thing for me right now). But before we can get to that, let’s get to this!

This week sees the end of the Guild mash-ups. Just in time too, as I’m going to see Felicia Day at Comic-Con. Arguably, I saved the best for last. For sure, I saved the main character for last.

So Sass is dressed up as Codex. I don’t know why, but I just enjoy colouring red hair. The thing that gave me the most trouble for this set was undoubtedly the weapons. I just really struggled getting them to look right. Again I decided to make up my pose for Sass and I really like it. Originally the paw she was holding out was supposed to glow as though she were casting a spell, but I liked the colouring so much, I didn’t want to mute any of it with a glow effect. Her paw should probably be held outward instead of inward so that it looks like she’s motioning you to stop, instead of telling you to bring it, but I guess it works with the aggressive look on her face.

The Guild – Bladezz

Wednesday is Mash-up Day as you all well know. Let’s not waste any time and get to it, yo!

We’re getting closer to the end of the Guild retrospective. After this week, there’s one more to go. As always, click on da pic to see it go big.

I didn’t see a problem with casting Red Rich as Bladezz at first. When I pulled out the artwork to start working on the piece, I realized something: Normally as I decide who’s playing who in a theme, I give consideration to the character’s fur colour and how it will contrast with the costume. For example, I don’t like casting Todrick in any costumes that are red. I hadn’t given it much thought in this case, but now that I was ready to start work on Red Rich as Bladezz I was worried that there would be too much grey in the picture. The only alternatives were Big Oonch and Barnaby and I didn’t really want to use either for Bladezz. Todrick would have been much better but I had already used him for Vork and it turned out well so I didn’t want to ditch and switch. I committed to trying Red Rich anyways. I’m glad I did, because I like the way it turned out. I gave the costume a more bluish tint to make it stand out from Red Rich’s grey fur. Once again, I played around with semi-action poses, instead of having him just standing there. I think it adds something to the piece.

The Guild – Vork

Wednesday Mash-up Day! Yeah! Let’s go!

We’ve still got a few Guild mash-ups to go, so if you thought this week would be anything else but the Guild, you be a silly person. As always, click da pic to make with the bigness.

I picked Todrick to play Vork. I had some trouble finding a full-length drawing of Vork to model the armor on and had to settle for the original design artwork from the first season, rather than some of the slicker stuff from the comics. I came up with my own pose to put him in for an added challenge. Normally, I just draw whatever pose the character is in in the artwork I chose for a model. It’s easier than trying to figure out how to draw the costume from a different angle. The part that gave me the most trouble was actually the sword.

Two more weeks of the Guild to go! That means the last one will go up just before I go to Comic-Con and get to see Felicia Day!

The Guild – Clara

And so it was written that on the Wednesday of every week, a mash-up would be revealed. And who am I to go against the prophecy?

It’s more Guildy goodness this week. As always, click on the pic to make it go big.

Nektara is playing the part of Clara. I chose her mostly because they both have blonde hair. So far, this is my least favorite piece for this theme. I don’t know why. I think it’s solid. I just like the others so much more.

Woo doggy! It’s Wednesday! Time for dem dere Mashy-ups! Let’s git to dem a’right?

This week we’re still fully ensconced in The Guild. As always, click on da pic to see it go big.

Cyran picked the role of Zaboo out of a hat, so here he is dressed as Zaboo. It’s different drawing him without the goggles on, but I think he turned out pretty good. Often we don’t see his legs, but I shortened the costume so we could get a peak at them and the details of Zaboo’s pants.
