From the journal of Ardebast Raconteur:

As you might expect from the name, the town of Appleglen’s main product is apples. The town is situated to the east of the apple orchards that have grown surrounding Sweetwater Lake.

It’s not surprising that apples form a central dietary staple for Appleglen’s residents. They make everything with apples there; apple dumplings, apple pies, apple cider, applesauce, apple butter, apple bread, and of course, my personal favourite apple fritters. You’d be hard pressed to find any inn or tavern that does not have apples on the menu. Fortunately, for me, I love apples so it’s always an appreciated stop on my itinerary.

The apple orchards surrounding Appleglen are also responsible for Sweetwater Lake. After years of apples from the surrounding orchards falling into the lake, the water of the lake has sweetened, hence the name.

Carja’s Notes:

Appleglen wasn’t even in the original map of Pelaria. I added it later because I felt the map was too empty in that area. I added the orchards and from there the idea came for Sweetwater Lake next to it.

I was thinking (always dangerous) about my blog.
And then I thought about it some more.
And these thoughts I came to realize
Were all thoughts I’d thought before.

A lot of the blogs I write have no point
And the things in them that I spout
Well you see, I chose them quite simply
Because I didn’t know what else to write about.

My blog is my little corner of the site
To write what’s in my head.
But sometimes there’s nothing good in there
And junk comes out instead.

I have no news to talk about
Or at least none I feel free to share.
But it’s not like many people read this blog
So maybe I shouldn’t care.

I’m open to suggestions, friends
If there’s something about which I should write
Just send me a line to tell me
And I’ll try to add it to the site!

Nektara was a bundle of nerves as she travelled along the path to where her destiny awaited. She drew her flute to her lips and blew into it as she walked. The music poured out of her as it always did, the exact song she needed to set herself straight.

When at last she finished, a voice spoke out, “That was lovely! Does your song have a name?”

Nektara looked around to see who it was. Behind her was a young fox. By the looks of him, he was about her age, give or take a season. He was dressed in a rustic tunic with a pack slung over his shoulder. She hadn’t even noticed him following her!

“I don’t know…“ she answered. “Most of the time, I just play and whatever comes out, comes out. I usually have no idea if it’s a song I’ve heard before or just something that’s been fiddling around in my brain waiting to get out!”

The fox smiled, “Well, I say it was high time that song made its way out of your brain.” He held out his paw, “I’m Todrick.”

“Nektara,” the oursa replied, “Pleased to meet you.” She shook paws with the friendly fox.

“Likewise.” The fox surveyed her for a moment, “Looks to me as though you’re on a journey…”

“As do you…” Nektara noted.

“Only as far as the rookery,” Todrick said.

This was quite the coincidence, thought Nektara. “You’re meeting with Crismus as well?”

Todrick nodded, before adding, “If he’ll speak with me.”

“I was invited!” Nektara said, trying not to sound too smug or proud.

“How wonderful!“ the fox said sincerely. “As we both have the same destination, what say you to the idea of travelling together?” Todrick offered.

“Sure!”

And with that there were a pair of travellers along the path to the rookery where before there had been one stranger and another.
