Welcome back to the Wednesday Mash-up. Last week we saw the Animus gang gear up as members of the Joe squad. This week, we see what happens when they join the ranks of Kitty. Yeah, I changed Cobra to Kitty. More on that later.

First, let’s take a look at the Kitty logo, sure to inspire cuteness in the hearts of men.

First is Nektara as the Bear-oness. Surprisingly, I came up with the name pun AFTER I decided to cast Nektara as the Baroness and not the other way around. It was while I was drawing her that I decided I would change the logo. But the Kitty logo was not the original logo I drew.

Originally, Todrick was going to be Fox (Cobra) Commander and Sass was going to be Sasspentor. That was the plan when I drew Bear-oness so I drew a fox logo on her (which I didn’t really like). Then as I went along, I decided that Todrick would make a better match for Serpentor as Vulpintor, so the Cobra Commander role went to Sass.  It made more sense to call her Kitty Commander, and that’s when I changed the logo to the cat one. Anyway, here’s Kitty Commander.

You’re probably thinking Vulpintor is next, but I finally decided that since I don’t especially LIKE Serpentor, I wasn’t going to use him. Instead, Todrick got cast as Dr. Noggin-knocker.

Kitty couldn’t do without a world-class tinkerer to build new weapons. They had to settle for Destryan.

Fortunately, they have Scrap-Oonch to pick up some of the slack (chosen specifically for his eye-covering mask). I drew Oonch first, before I thought of changing the Cobra logo, so originally he had a stylized cobra like Scrap-Iron’s on his helmet. I later had to go back and colour over it so I could draw the stylized kitty in its place.

Redtan is the Kitty master of disguise. Unfortunately, his idea of a disguise is changing the colour of his mask!

Zo-rana is much better at disguising herself, but her everyday-wear makes her easy to pick out in a crowd.

Finally, there’s Major Barnabludd, with his bionic arm. I can’t seem to resist giving Barnaby a mustache.

Stormshadow didn’t make the cut for the same reason Snake-Eyes didn’t make the cut last week. Their masks obscure too much of the faces, making it less obvious who’s underneath the mask (and I don’t particularly care for ninjas).

That’s all for this week. Next week, I’ll go back and finish the Avengers. I promise!

As promised, here is the picture I drew to celebrate the Cats victory in the Memorial Cup.

Yesterday, for the first time in 43 years of existence, the Shawinigan Cataractes (formerly known as the Bruins and also the Dynamo) won the Memorial Cup. It was a special moment for a community that truly deserves it. I grew up here in Shawinigan and came back after finishing my schooling in Quebec and Montreal. I’ve seen the town go through some rough times. It’s had the distinction of being one of the poorest areas in all of Canada. Industries have closed shop.Yeah, it’s not always rosy here in Shawi.

But yesterday none of that mattered. When Zlobin scored near the end of the first overtime period I let out a roar of approval in my living room (the event was televised on Sportsnet). I can’t say that I’m a diehard Cats fan, but they’re my hometown team. Of course I was rooting for them.

They took the long and hard road to the championship. After losing a round-robin game to their QJMHL rivals, the St. John Seadogs on Wednesday, they had to win a tiebreaker against the Edmonton Oil Kings on Thursday, those same Seadogs in the semi-finals on Friday and then the London Knights on Sunday. Four games of high level play in five nights had to be draining, and I’m sure they’ll feel it later, but now there’s just celebration.

I wasn’t proud of them the whole tournament. They had a tight loss in the first game against the Oil Kings and they exemplified all that I dislike about hockey in Wednesday’s game against the Seadogs as they took undisciplined penalties and generally gooned it up. Had they won that game they would have gone straight to the finals instead of the Knights, so I imagine frustration played a factor in their behaviour, but still. I was glad to see a much more disciplined team show up for the last three games. A disciplined team that still manage to dominate their opposition to get to the finals. They had another slow start in the final game, but in the end…victory.

I wanted to post a picture to celebrate the victory, but it isn’t finished yet. I went to bed late last night after watching the trophy ceremony and I have a huge headache. Rest assured it’s coming though!  For now, let me close this week’s blog with a hearty

GO CATS GO!
