It be bloggin’ time dontcha know! Let us bloggin’ den!

This past weekend was the Extra Life charity drive. Gamers around the world went on gaming marathons to raise funds for Extra Life, a charity to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital Network. A lot of these groups had live streams of their games on Twitch or other similar services. A lot of these were of video gamers playing various video games, but the Game Night gang from Boardgamegeek put on a 25 hour live stream of themselves playing board games. I watched a good deal of it (I dozed off at various points throughout the night) and had a good time doing so. I was SUPER tired on Sunday of course and a I’m still a little tired today but easily capable of functioning. Maybe someday I’ll try my own 24 hour gaming drive.

A few weeks ago I signed up for a 1 month subscription to Board Game Bento, which is a mailing service along the lines of Loot Crate, where folks sign up and get a themed box of goodies every month. Loot Crate offers a variety of memorabilia that will be of interest to pop culture fans. Board Game Bento, as you may have guessed offers a box of board games. It’s a little pricey for Canadians what with the exchange rate being what it is and the cost of shipping, but I wanted to see what they offer. I got my box on Friday and it contained three board games, two of which looked interesting from the get-go. The third I’m not sold on, but I still think I got good value for my money. They aren’t games I would have given a serious look at on a store shelf, but I think that’s part of the charm of the service. It widens the subscriber’s scope. For the record, the three games were The Manhattan Project: Chain Reaction, a streamlined card game version of the original board game, World’s Fair 1893 and High Noon Saloon.

I finished the new cast portraits over the weekend. Expect a visual update to the site over the next few weeks.

That’s about all for now. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday. Carja V.

Does this seem familiar? Well it should, because this. Is. A. FLASHBACK! Oh yeah! Click on pictures to enlarge them.

In the original series bible, Evil-Lyn is an astronaut from Earth named Evelyn Powers. She crashes on Eternia with two other astronauts, Biff and Marlena. Biff mutates into Beast-Man. Marlena marries King Randor to become queen and Evelyn becomes an evil sorceress named Evil-Lyn (love the puns!). This plot is pretty much abandoned by the cartoon. Evil-Lyn is an evil sorceress who helps Skeletor. She’s one of his most competent aides.

Here’s Nektara as Evil-Lyn. In the toy line, Evil-Lyn and Teela shared a body sculpt. In order to make each drawing more distinct, I went with the 200x update of Evil-Lyn for the original. This time around, I went back to the classic look for Evil-Lyn and went with the cartoon look for Teela to distinguish the two.

Here’s the comparison to the original. The original Evil-Lyn was one of the weaker drawings insofar as keeping the character’s dimensions go. It just doesn’t look like Nektara. But I really liked the colouring and shading.

That’s all for this week. More Masters flashbacks next week.

Hello you. Yes you. This hello is for you. Share it with others and you will get many more hellos in return. That’s the cool thing about hellos.

It’s Hallowe’en, the one day I can wear my Bogus Journey Ted vest to work without feeling weird. Nobody recognizes it but that’s okay. I know it’s cool. The only drawback to wearing the vest (and the hoodie beneath it) is that it’s HOT. I wear short-sleeved shirts just about year-round. I was able to walk outside for my break with them on and I didn’t even feel cold. Biking to and from work was another story of course. I wore my jacket over them both.

Things are finally getting a little less hectic at work. I was actually able to catch up on some older work. Feels good to be able to see my desktop again! 🙂

About a month ago, a lot of the talk around the board game community was about Mechs vs. Minions by Riot, the fine folk behind League of Legends. It’s their first foray into the board game world and they really went all out. I way swayed by the hype and ordered it the day it was released. It finally came in over the weekend and wow. The videos and pictures online are one thing, but actually having it in hand is something else. There are 105 miniatures included in the box and a lot more. I’ve seen videos of the gameplay and it looks solid. I’m looking forward to getting it to the table.

Skylanders Academy showed up in my Netflix queue over the weekend. Looks like I signed up at exactly the right time. I just finished Stranger Things and I’ve been watching a lot of Clone Wars. I also binged through Steampunk’d.

That’s about it for this week. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday. Have a happy and safe Hallowe’en all! Carja V.
