Wednesday Mash-up time! Let us see what Santa Mash-up has brought us this week!

Klonoa is my very favorite video game series. It’s just adorable. I first played the game in a demo from Playstation magazine on my roommate’s machine and was hooked. It was one of the first games I got when I got my own Playstation. I bought the soundtrack on CD. The day I saw that Klonoa 2 had come out for the PS2, I immediately went out and bought the machine just so I could play the game (an expensive day). I have the Gameboy Advance games. I think the only games I don’t have are the Japanese-only ones. I started playing around with a Klonoa card game (one of my many dropped game designs). All this to say that I think Klonoa is awesome.

So Cyran got to be Klonoa on account of his floppy ears. I adapted Klonoa’s ring to accommodate Cyran’s wrench. Gotta love the Pac-Man on his cap. It’s odd that the logo would be on the back of it though, right?

That’s all for this week and the video game theme. Next week we revisit Star Wars with a mini Return of the Jedi theme.

Good time period! It’s time for a Wednesday Mash-up, it being Wednesday and all. Let us do this.

I remember playing the first Tomb Raider on the…Saturn I believe it was? The premise of the game was fascinating. The execution was a little less so. Execution being a double-sensed word here. I died a lot. It was early enough into that generation of games that I was terrible at moving around in three dimensions. Anyway. I still like the franchise even though I’ve played very few of the games. I really liked the CCG and even the movies. The reboot game was pretty sweet too.

Here’s Sass dressed as Lara Croft. I went with one of her more modest outfits, because that’s how I roll. I really like the way the pose came out.

That’s all for this week. Still one more week to guess the closing video game franchise! Come back next Wednesday for the reveal!

It’s Wednesday and that means mash-ups, right? Let’s get to them!

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego is a computer game that strove to teach its players (nominally kids) geography. You’d investigate a crime scene and surrounding areas to get clues (always interesting facts about a country) to the thief’s next location and you’d try to track him or her down before time ran out. You did this several times until master thief Carmen Sandiego herself came out and then you’d try to track her down to finish the game. It was a fun deal and I know a lot of us would play in the computer lab after school. It being educational and all, it was one of the rare games we were allowed to play. The downside of the early game of course was the limited number of places and clues meant there wasn’t a ton of replayability. The game got a bump by being translated into a kids’ game show on PBS and had a really fun theme song, sung live every episode by Rockapella.

Here’s Chae as Carmen Sandiego. I chose this franchise mainly because it had a female lead (even if Carmen was the bad guy) that wasn’t just wearing a skimpy costume. The high heels were a late addition when looking at how I drew Chae’s feet kinda looked off. The heel just made it look better.

That’s all for this week. We’ve got two more games to go. We know Sass and Cyran are coming up and also my favorite video game of all time which will be going on last. Who and what will it be? Well that’s two weeks away. Next week, you’ll find out the runner up!

Hello and good Wednesday to ye, mash-up fans! It be time for yet another mash-up, so let us get to it, shall we?

I think I first played Bomberman on the Nintendo 64. Did he exist before that? Wikipedia says yes. It’s a fun PvP game where everybody controls their own Bomberman and is trying to knock out their opponents by strategically placing and moving around bombs in an arena setting. There are usually a number of maps to choose from which can make for some interesting challenges. It’s not a game I’ve deeply explored, but it can be some quick fun for an hour or so.

Here’s Skitter as Bomberman. It’s a really simple design so this one was quick to push out. If nothing else, it’s a cute one.

That’s all for this week. See you next Wednesday for another mash-up reveal!

Hey hey! It’s Wednesday and time for a mash-up. Let’s go!

Mega Man was one of my favorite video game franchises on the NES. The first game in the series was tough. It took a while before I was able to play through it. I remember playing through at least four sequels that were all much easier. We were able to play through each of them in one rental (one weekend). I didn’t play any of the Mega Man X games on the Super Nintendo, mainly because I didn’t have one, but also because the esthetic changed and I didn’t really like the new look. Many years later, a new Mega Man game came out on the Playstation Network that reproduced the old 8-Bit style. It was harder than the original. I wasn’t able to complete a single level.

Here’s Red Blue Rich as Mega Man. Not much to say about this piece other than there’s a lot of blue in it. I considered doing different colour schemes to represent the various power-ups Mega Man gets from defeating the various Wily Robots, but didn’t think it added much for all the work it involved so I just stuck to the classic colour scheme.

Mega Man

That’s all for this week. Which video game franchise will appear next Wednesday? Come back next week to find out!
