I bid a good Wednesday to all the good friends of the site, I bid a good Wednesday to the casual visitors, and I bid a good Wednesday to the newcomers. If you’re not somewhere on that list, you can have a good Wednesday too, I suppose.

The Skitter and Chae mash-up ride is moving into Joe territory. As always, click on a picture to enlarge it.

Here we have Skitter as Mini Slam. I guess it’s an odd choice of characters, but I think Skitter deserves a jetpack, so there you have it.

Mini-Slam

Here’s his card.

And that’s all for this week. If you think I went off the map for Skitter’s character choice, wait til you see Chae next week! See you next Wednesday for the reveal!

Hello peoples! It’s the second post of 2015! I swear I’m not going to make that a thing. It’s just the first time I’m writing for the site in the new year (yesterday’s post was a Funny). Anyway, before we move on, let me just mention for those of you following on Facebook and wondering, there WAS a flashback posted last week. It was Cyran as Captain America. I was having trouble with my Facebook connection last week and it never updated.

I drew what is technically the last of the flashbacks today. I say technically, because the last flashback I have planned is of something I haven’t drawn before. I’m lumping it in with the flashbacks because it’s a theme I’ve done before. What is it? Well, you’ll find out on January 30th, when the last flashback goes live! For now, let’s just be happy with this week’s flashback. What I was thinking of for the last flashback will actually be the first of a new set of mash-ups which will bring new characters into old themes, like I did with Deema after her introduction. Who and what? You’ll find out January 21st, when the next mash-up theme is due. For now, let’s enjoy this week’s flashback.

Deema is here to close out the G.I.JOE theme as Jinx. Deema was first cast as Jinx because Jinx was the last of the original Joe gals. I wasn’t really feeling drawing Jinx again though. I rooted through yojoe.com (my go-to spot for Joe information) trying to find a different character to go with and nothing was working for me. So I decided to stick with Jinx, but I went with the revised card art which I thought would be a little more interesting to draw. So here it is.

Jinx

I went with the revised art, but I stuck to my basic card layout just to keep things uniform.

And here’s the comparison to the original mash-up.

So that closes out G.I.JOE. Next week, is Star Wars (and it’s not even the last one) so come on back for that. Have a great weekend!

Hello Flashback fans! Thanks for dropping by for this week’s installment as the Flashbacks are on the last stretch. Seven left to go. Let’s get on to number 7 on our countdown.

Another theme done, the last of the Cobra flashbacks is here. There was some really good stuff in this one. I hope we’re ending on a high note.

Zoë is reprising her role as Zarana. I’m digging the colours on this one.

Zarana

Here’s the action figure card mock-up. Yes, Zarana’s tag-line was that she was Zartan’s sister. It does bill her colour-changing ability too at least.

And of course the comparison to the original mash-up. I specifically remember being happy with the original because of all the detail it included, particularly in the colouring. I was still trying to master Zoë’s face at that time which drags the original down.

That’s all for this week. Next week is the last of the Avengers mash-ups. Who’s left? Well you can search through the archives or you can check back here next Friday. Both are good choices. Have a great weekend everybody!

Happy Friday everybody! Time for another flashback! Enjoy!

“Truck full of good eats huh?”
“What’s it to you, Jack?”
“I’m hungry, I’m a gourmet chef and the name’s not Jack, it’s ROADBLOCK! I’m with G.I.JOE!”

This is a scene from G.I.JOE: The Revenge of Cobra mini-series. I couldn’t help quoting the last line repeatedly as I was drawing today’s flashback. Remember to click on pictures to enlarge them.

So yeah, Barnaby is here as Roadblock, a fun character who went on to be played by The Rock in the second live-action Joe movie. I’m more partial to the original animated series myself and of course, all the flashbacks are based on the original card art. On a side note, Barnaby always gets the huge honkin’ guns.

Roadblock

Here’s his action figure card.

And here’s the comparison to the original mash-up. But wait, those aren’t the same characters! That’s right. The first time around, Barnaby was Bazooka, a character I chose because he’s not the brightest bulb on the Joe Christmas tree. The pose from Bazooka’s card art was frustrating me and to be honest, Bazooka is one of my least favorite Joes, so I just decided to switch characters. Sorry Bazooka fans.

That’s all for this week. Have a good weekend everybody!

It’s Friday before a three-day weekend (Canadian Thanksgiving yo!) and that’s just cool. Let us commence this anticipatory day of celebration with a flashback!

It’s Cobra Friday again. Somehow despite my best efforts to avoid it, I scheduled two flashbacks from the same theme one after the other. Oh well. Cobra fans rejoice! As always, click on a picture to enlarge it.

Big Oonch was chosen for Scrap-Iron because of the sweet helmet he wears. It was weird making him kneel because Oonch is already so short.

Scrap-Iron

Here’s the action figure card design.

And here’s the comparison to the original mash-up. Looking back, Scrap-Iron was probably one of the more solid mash-ups from that period.

That’s all for this week. Next week, you have something Star Trek-y to look forward to. Have a great weekend everybody!
