It be Monday, time to blog…ARRRR! Because I be talkin’ like a pirate for no reason. ARRR!

Okay, so that’s enough of that.

This weekend was the yearly town sidewalk sale where the town shuts down its main commercial street to traffic so that townsfolk can rent tables and sell stuff. It’s an event and it’s kinda fun when the weather’s good and it was. Saturday was a beautiful sunny day with a pleasant breeze that made the walk up and down the street very enjoyable. I picked up a three-volume set of Bone, which I’ve never read but the artwork is appealing and the box set looked good. Other than that I picked up a FASA Star Trek rulebook for a buck, just because. Fab and Lyne found a lot more stuff, like vinyl records and Disney books for little Owen. This to say that it was a…I don’t want to say profitable because we didn’t MAKE money, but it’s the best word I can think of, so it was a profitable day.

On Saturday night, FCL put on the final wrestling show of the season and it was a doozy. For the low price of $13 ($10 if you purchased in advance) you got to see a four-hour wrestling show. The guys and gals really worked hard. The highlights were the Lego Death Match (they actually dumped boxes of lego compatible bricks all over the ring and wrestled on them), the main event and for me personally, the old-timers battle royal. Now I say old-timers but the oldest guy couldn’t have been older than forty. These were just guys and gals who wrestled when FCL first started over a decade ago. Why was this so cool for me? Because one of my childhood friends wrestled in it. I met Gilles Renaud in the park one day when I was in grade 5 or so and we just really clicked. We were the best of friends and he was one of the big reasons why I became a wrestling fan to begin with. But whereas I was content with merely watching wrestling, he and his brother Bryan actually went to a wrestling school and learned to wrestle. Gilles moved to Montreal and was involved in that wrestling scene for a number of years. He’s on hiatus (he doesn’t want to say retired) but couldn’t say no when they asked him to participate. The guys and gals really looked like they were having a good time out there in the battle royal and Gilles was the last guy to be eliminated. I got to catch up with him after the show and he revealed to me that that’s part of his gimmick. He’s the face that always comes close but just barely loses out. All said, it was a great show. The new season will start in September and in October they’ve actually signed a WWE Hall of Famer to come in. Hacksaw Jim Duggan will be coming to Shawinigan to wrestle! Can’t wait.

Another interesting tidbit. One of the sponsors of the show was a new gaming store, Le Joker du Jeu, in Shawinigan-Sud. This was news to me. I live in Shawinigan-Sud and I hadn’t heard of such a thing. They said it was on 105th which even bigger news considering I’d just spent the day going up and down that street and hadn’t seen it. I went down 105th this morning on my way to work (normally I go down 103rd) and I found it. I dropped in after work and they’re still setting up. Their official opening is on the 17th but they couldn’t pass up the opportunity to do some business over the weekend. They seem to have some big plans so I’ll be keeping my eye out for that. They don’t have as big of a play area as Les Dés Truqués (or nearly as huge of a library) but it’s a five-minute walk away from my place. Incidentally, having missed the last bus last night, I can say that the walk home from Les Dés Truqués is about 30 minutes, which isn’t bad either, especially if the weather’s nice (and it was).

So Oonch took his hat off and still I didn’t show his eyes. That wasn’t the plan going in. I was all set to do the big reveal and then I decided to play it up and draw out the big reveal. Finally, I thought, wouldn’t it be even funnier if I did the whole storyline of Oonch showing his eyes without actually showing his eyes? The jury’s still out on that one. The decision made me rethink some ideas. We’ll see how it goes. The story will conclude in July.

That’s all for this week. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday. Carja V.
