Hello Top Men and Top Women. I’m blogging again.

I went to see Wonder Woman on Saturday and it was good. Really good. Easily in my top five superhero movies. They got a DC superhero movie right and that’s just cool. Gal Gadot is wonderful (see what I did there?). Her Wonder Woman was my favorite part of Batman V Superman, but considering how bad that movie was, it wasn’t saying much. It remained to be seen if she could carry her own movie and I can safely say she does. Linda Carter may be Wonder Woman to most of my generation, but I never really watched the TV show. I’m on team Gadot all the way. I’m not really up on Chris Pine’s filmography (other than Star Trek) but Steve Trevor is currently my favorite of his roles. Overall, it’s a movie that I’m very interested in seeing again.

This said, the movie wasn’t perfect. I wasn’t sold on all the fight scenes. They do a lot of wire work to get Wonder Woman jumping around and some of it is really well done and other parts…well there doesn’t seem to be any weight behind her movement so it’s clear she’s on a wire. Fortunately, fight scenes aren’t all that important to me. Of course, I want Wonder Woman to kick rear end and be a powerful hero and in that they succeed so kudos.

The dialogue is a little clunky in places. They play it earnest without being overly campy so it works.

They made an interesting choice in setting the movie during World War I rather than World War II as is her comics origin. That worked for me as I find the WWI period much more interesting.  It’s a shame that the current plan seems to be to skip directly to modern time for the next one. I wouldn’t have minded exploring the time period some more or seeing Wonder Woman through the ages.

TL;DR Wonder Woman rocks!

I’m mostly done with the Street Fighter flashbacks. I need to shade the last two and that’s it. That means it’s time to think about what the next theme will be. I’m leaning towards revisiting my Space Age of Animus set. I really dig that pulpy sci-fi look and I want to take another crack at it.

In other news, Big Oonch took off his hat on Thursday! As alluded to in the titles to last week’s strips, one time it happened that I drew Oonch with his eyes clearly visible. It’s a Hallowe’en piece where everybody is dressed up as another character. Oonch is dressed up as Barnaby and doesn’t have the hat on. It’s one of my biggest mistakes and should no longer be available for viewing. If you do find it, keep in mind that it isn’t accurate. Oonch’s eyes are…special. More on that as the story develops.

That’s all for this week. Have a good seven and we’ll do this all again next Monday. Carja V.
